In Wood County we currently have two specialized foster care homes. Specialized
foster care homes are intended to
provide a higher level of care than a general foster home. Specialized foster parents
are generally very experienced
foster parents and are willing and able to manage children or youth who are struggling
in various ways. The youth
placed in specialized foster care homes may struggle with a variety of issues, including,
but not limited to: mental
health issues, alcohol or drug addictions, significant trauma history, truancy or
chronic parent/child conflict. One
parent in the home is required to be a stay at home parent. Additionally, a social
worker is specifically assigned to
this home to provide extra support to the foster parent and the child in care.
Placement in specialized foster care is intended to prevent placements such as treatment
foster care, group home or
residential care.
